Maokiji
Built a browser-playable turn-based RPG with three zones, vendors and a 100-level progression curve.
Overview
Maokiji is a turn-based RPG playable directly in the browser via WebGL. Players explore three zones, defeat bosses for materials to sell to town vendors, upgrade gear, and level up to 100 — each level granting different attribute bonuses.
My role & the team
Built solo. Art assets credited to OpenGameArt contributors.
What I built
- Developed the turn-based combat and exploration across three zones.
- Built the vendor, gear-upgrade and economy loop.
- Implemented a 100-level progression system with per-level attribute bonuses.
- Deployed the game to WebGL for direct in-browser play.
The technical challenge
WebGL builds are constrained on download size and memory, so an RPG with three zones and deep progression has to stay lean enough to load and run in a browser tab.
My engineering approach
I kept the systems modular and the build lightweight so the full RPG loop runs directly in-browser without a native install.
Result
A complete RPG playable in the browser and downloadable on itch.io.
